After graduating with a degree in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Kent, in the UK, Aby went on to pursue a Masters in Biodiversity Management. As part of this she spent five months researching subsistence use of mangrove forests in northern Madagascar.

Aby returned to Madagascar after her degree, where she worked for three months exploring the dynamics of bush meat hunting and trade on the island.

For the past 18 months, she has been based in south-eastern Tanzania, where she provides technical advice and support to a leading non-government organization (NGO) facilitating community forestry in the country – the Mpingo Conservation & Development Initiative (MCDI).
