The complexity and volume of world timber flows increase every year to meet the demands of consumers worldwide. Between 2009 and 2013, total imports of wood and wood products grew on average by 8% every year to reach over US$ 35 billion. China leads this ranking with a share of 14% of global imports, and African countries play an increasingly important role as suppliers of raw materials (8.3% of Chinese imports of wood and wood products are sourced from Africa). How can we guarantee and track the integrity of long supply chains worldwide in this intricate system of exports and imports? What tools can help achieve this goal?
