Head of Sustainability, Woolworths Holdings

zoomJustin SmithJustin SmithJustin Smith is Head of the Woolworths Holdings Good Business Journey (Sustainability Programme). He is responsible for the strategy, its structure and integration across the whole business, and the delivery of more than 200 targets across issues of transformation, social development, environment, and climate change.

Woolworths was named International Responsible Retailer of the Year in 2008, 2010, and 2012.

Justin was previously employed at the Nedbank Group, as Head of Governance and Sustainability, as well as being Operational Head of Enterprise Governance and Compliance within Nedbank’s Enterprise Governance and Compliance cluster. He has also been an Associate in the Environmental Law and Sustainability Services department of Edward Nathan and Friedland (Pty) Ltd; and a Risk Manager at Standard Bank Group Risk Management.

Justin was previously Co-chair of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives Africa, a member of the National Business Initiative Western Cape Board, a member of the Sustainable Development Forum of the Institute of Directors, a director of the Green Building Council of South Africa, and a trustee of the Table Mountain Fund.

Justin holds a B Comm Law (cum Laude), an LLB degree (cum Laude), and a B Comm Honours in Financial Management (cum Laude), all from the University of Pretoria; and an LLM (environmental law, international economic law, and international law) from the University of South Africa.
