Viv McMenamin

Director, Land & Forestry Division, Mondi Limited

zoomViv McMenamin joined Mondi in 2003 and went on to become Director of Sustainable Development and a member of the Mondi South Africa Board in 2004. She has held her current portfolio as Director of the Land and Forestry Division for Mondi SA since the beginning of 2006.

In this role she has responsibility for the management of 300,000 hectares of land, including the management of nearly 100,000 hectares of open areas. Mondi Forests is at the forefront of land claims settlements with over 50 percent of its land under claim.

Viv holds an MSC in Economics from the University of London. She has worked extensively with government, trade unions and non-government organizations, with her main focus always being on promoting economic development. In 1995 she served Nelson Mandela as a member of the President’s Task Force on Local Economic Development; and later served as a member of President Thabo Mbeki’s Economic Advisory Panel.

Viv is passionate about transformation and sustainability within the context of competitive business. She is a recipient of the Helen Suzman Award for Leadership, and was the overall winner in the 2012 Environment, Waste, Forestry & Paper category for SA's Most Influential Women in Business and Government.

Viv has also held seats on Boards including Anglo American Plc’s Chairman’s Fund, Durban Africa, Ntsika, and OLIVE, among others. She is an Executive Member of Forestry South Africa (FSA) and a Board Member of SiyaQhubeka Forests and Mondi Zimele. She is also the Vice Chairman of the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR). Recently, she was appointed to the Ethekwini Metro Planning Commission.
